Introduction

Hello, dear readers, and welcome to 'Ready Player 2,' as much a blog as it is a sort of experiment. This blog is a platform for me to review and play videogames, detailing my experiences including the use of controls, graphics, immersion, community and my overall opinions.
This blog, however, is written from the stance of someone who has never described herself as a serious gamer- rather a gamer's girlfriend. Gaming is Tom (my boyfriend)'s entire world; if he isn't on some mission in COD, he's competing for a space in Fall Guys, shooting people in Borderlands or Levelling up his warlocks. This makes about as much sense to me as a new language- though the idea is to explore his passion and potentially unlock this love of gaming for myself.
I have some, if limited, gaming experience- mostly Five Night At Freddy's, The Walking Dead and Minecraft, however I wish to delve further into this medium that is becoming increasingly popular and see why games are adored within their respective online communities.  I attempt to review some of my boyfriend's favourite games with fresh eyes and an eager mind, perhaps comparing our gaming preferences and why we gravitate towards the games we do.

I do already, from watching my boyfriend's countless hours of gaming in solitude, have some preconceptions about my preferences for different types of games and why:

* I really enjoy more narrative driven games where scenes play out, almost like movies. As an inexperienced gamer, this means I have to do less with the controls as a whole whilst still being immersed in the characters and story.
* I really love games wherein your choices decide the outcome of the story- for example TellTale's 'The Walking Dead' series is one of my favourites. I don't like to feel like I'm having a universal or generic experience, I like to feel as though my choices have a meaning, therefore making the game worthwhile. Another example of this is Netflix's 'Bandersnatch', an interactive film nonetheless, but a crossover with this style of game that I found enjoyable and refreshing.
* I do like horror games, though I usually can't play them. I scare quite easily and end up passing the controller over to Tom and watch the gameplay instead.
* I'm not so much a fan of first person shooter games, my aim is terrible and I tend to panic and just shoot random things.
* Games without a narrative are quite hard for me to enjoy- I like to feel as though I have a purpose or at least an endgoal rather than being left to my own devices.

These statements being said, Tom has free reign of the choice of games. We will play them together and I will post my results here. Follow me as I venture into a world of the virtual and adventurous.
